In the Event of a Lag Test
- To have a lag test performed, players must call for it either between games or within 60 seconds of the start of a game, otherwise, the results of any played matches will stand. “SD”s after the 60 second period will count towards recorded results.
- A lag test cannot be called after the end of the final game of a set if there has not been a deliberate SD
- A LAN adapter is Highly Recommended for participation in this tournament, but any lag issues, the person without the LAN adapter will forfeit the match.
- Minimum specifications for a "stable connection" are considered to be a "Ping" under 30 ms and an "Upload Speed" above 10 mb/s.
- It is up to TO discretion to determine who is the cause of the lag using these guidelines and decide on who, if anyone, will be disqualified.
Lag Test Process
After a moderator has visited the smash.gg test to confirm the mod request and need for a lag test the following steps will need to be completed by both players. If any player is unable to submit to any of these steps then that player will forfeit the match.
Step 1: Confirming Each Player is on LAN
While LAN connection is not required to enter the tournament, this is usually the main reason why we see connection issues.
- Both players are to submit a photo of their Nintendo Switch home screen showcasing the time and that it is indeed connected to LAN.
- Players have three minutes to submit the photo to the moderator through discord. The players must directly message their photo to the moderator/staff member. The moderator can and will deem that if a player is taking too long to submit the photo, to have them forfeit the match.
If both players are on a LAN connection, then the lag test will continue to Step 2.
Step 2: Internet Speed Test
Both players are to then to do an internet speed test. This could be done through searching "Internet Speed Test" on Google and using their in-browser speed test. Or by visiting https://www.speedtest.net and having your speed test performed on that website (Speedtest by Ookla).
- Once you have your speed test results you will need to take a photo of it and send it to the moderator/staff member through discord.
- Players have five minutes to submit their internet speed test results. The moderator can and will deem that if a player is taking too long to submit the speed test, to have them forfeit the match.
If both players pass the minimum specifications for a stable connection then the lag test will move on to step 3.
Step 3: New Arena Connection Test
The moderator/staff member will create an arena to test the connection for each player.
- One player at a time will join the Moderator/Staff member in their new arena and test their connection in the arena. After the 1-minute the staff member will end the game and ask the player to leave.
- The next player will then be invited to join the arena and perform a test for 1-minute.
Once the last test is over, the staff member will then close their arena and provide their final verdict to the lag test results.
