Event Rules

Nintendo Switch | Bring Your Own Controller

  • Double Elimination

  • Singles tournament (1v1)

  • Steve is BANNED

  • 3 Stocks, 7 Minutes

  • 2/3 Games per Set

  • 3/5 Games for Winners, Losers & Grand Finals

  • Winner of prior game is allowed 3 Stage Bans prior to counterpicking

  • mDSR (players are not allowed to counterpick to a stage they last won on in the set if the stage is not banned by their opponent)

  • If a game ends in a time over or with both players losing their last stocks simultaneously, the game’s winner is determined by the following criteria, in order:

    • Player with more stocks remaining
    • Player with less percent damage
    • New game with 1 stock and 3-minute timer
  • If a game ends with the successful use of a character’s self-destruct move, the game’s winner is determined by the results screen if it appears, without exception.

  • In-game Sudden Death mode is ignored in all cases

  • All controllers permitted so long as they do not contain macro or turbo functions that are not present in stock GameCube controllers

  • Coaching is banned

  • Amiibos are banned

  • Loading content onto consoles without authorization from tournament officials is banned

Starter Stages:

  • Battlefield
  • Town & City
  • Final Destination
  • Pokemon Stadium 2
  • Smashville

Counterpick Stages:

  • Small Battlefield
  • Kalos Pokémon League

Set Procedures

Prior to Game 1:

  • Competitors select their characters for Game 1, either competitor may request a Double-Blind character selection
  • Competitors play a best-of-1 in Rock-Paper-Scissors (RPS), the winner of RPS will choose to strike either first or second
  • Competitors take turns removing stages from the list of 5 starter stages (see above) in a P1-P2-P2-P1 order, the stage that remains is the stage for Game 1

Between Games in the Set:

  • Winner of prior game bans 3 stages from the full list of legal stages including both starters and counterpicks, these bans are effective for the next game only and do not persist throughout the set * Loser of the prior game selects the stage for the next game from the remaining unbanned legal stages, they are allowed to select a stage they won on earlier in the set if it is unbanned (no DSR) * Winner of the prior game selects a character for the next game, they are allowed to switch characters * Loser of the prior game selects a character for the next game, they are allowed to switch characters

Warnings & Removals

  • Theft
  • Damaging tournament equipment
  • Inappropriate physical contact with their opponent
  • Tampering with or damaging other players' equipment
  • Excessive trash-talking personally directed at other players
  • Physically attacking another tournament participant with the intent to harm

Tournament Rules

No outside food or drinks are allowed in the venue

Must be 21 to purchase alcohol from venue

Bring your own controller

6:00 pm (CST- Central Standard Time)

  • Music, check-in & on-site registration opens

6:45 pm (CST- Central Standard Time)

  • Registration closes, brackets begin as soon as seeded

GENERAL RULES

  • There is a maximum of 60 seconds allowed between games in a set.
  • All macros available via the in-game controller configuration menu are allowed.
  • Any player using “Random Select” to pick their character must use “Random Select” again after any winning game.
  • Hardware programmable input entry, rapid-fire, modifiers, macros, or other hardware assisted mechanisms are prohibited.
  • Accidentally pausing the game at any time during a tournament game will force you to forfeit the round (and potentially the game).
