Additional Rules

Stage Striking

After selection of characters, Players play a best-of-1 Rock-Paper-Scissors, and the winner may choose to either strike first or strike second. Stages are struck in a 1-2-2-1 order.

Stage Bans

After each Game of a Match, before selection of stages but after selection of characters, the player who won the previous game may ban two stages from either the starter or counterpick list. The bans do not persist throughout the Match.

Stage Clause

There is no stage clause for this event. (no DSR)

Match Procedure

Players select their characters. Either Player may elect to do Double Blind Character Selection (see next section). Use Stage Striking to determine the first stage. The Players play the first game of the set. The winning Player of the preceding Game locks in their character choice. The losing Player of the preceding Game locks in their character choice. The winning Player of the preceding Game bans a stage/stages. The losing Player of the preceding Game picks a stage for the next game. The next game is played. Repeat the previous steps for all subsequent matches until the set is complete.

Double Blind Character Selection

Either Player may request that a double-blind selection occur. In this situation, a designated referee or TO will be told, in secret, each of the Player’s choices for the first round. Both Players are to then select their first-round character, with the referee validating the character selections.

Mutual Agreement

Players may select any permitted stage if they both agree on it. Players may not play on unpermitted stages or change the length of a Match.

Double Elimination Bracket

The format of the event is a Double Elimination Bracket, which means that Players will compete in an initial bracket of 1v1 matches, with the winner of each match advancing. The loser of a match in the initial bracket will move to the lower bracket and continue competing in 1v1 matches, with the winner of each match advancing. If a Player loses in the lower bracket, they are eliminated from the tournament. The last Player remaining in the lower bracket will play against the last Player remaining in the initial bracket in Grand Finals and must win two consecutive matches to eliminate the Player from the initial bracket and win the event. The Player from the initial bracket wins the event if they win one match against the Player from the lower bracket. If the number of entrants is fewer than 8 Players, the tournament organizers may elect to have all entrants vote on whether or not to run the event with a Round Robin format, which would entail every Player competing in a 1v1 match against every other Player, with the winner being the Player with the best results after all matches have been played.

All other rules not specified above currently correspond to the GENESIS: BLACK on December 2nd and 3rd, 2023. If there are any further questions, please reach out to the tournament organizers, Boddity77, Zeldafan, and Zhe. Rules may change at any time at TO discretion, and all TO rulings are final.
